Soy and Sake Village, NYC

Soy and Sake Village is my FAVORITE vegetarian cafe in the West Village specializing in Japanese, Chinese, and American style dishes. My girlfriend and I eat their EVERY Friday night, we are regulars. All of the food has been perfect (our goal is to try everything on the menu) and inexpensive. Some other dishes include: mockmeat sandwiches, curries, salads, noodles, sushi and my favorite bento boxes. If you are ever in the New York area be sure to stop in for a bite!

Match in the video: Rob Bigwood vs. Shawn Lattimer
Take a peek at this short teaser Matte Chi cut from yesterdays Big Apple Grapple tournament. Matt is the most amazing director, videographer, and editor - a really talented guy. Contact me if you want his email for work purposes.
I ended up taking second place to Travis Bagent in the super lefties AND second place to Mike Selearis in the 225 lbs right handed class. Not too bad for training only 3.5 months and taking over two years off.

One of the most common questions I get asked being a vegetarian is “So how do you get your protein?” I tell people there are PLENTY of ways to get great sources of protein other then meat - its a huge misconception.
After a workout I usually mix Tocotrienols, Raw Power, Nature’s First Food, some peanut butter or bananna with Silk soy milk.
I order all of that from SunFood.com or RawPower.com

ONLY two days before the Big Apple Grapple event! I’m excited and nervous all at once considering I have not competed in almost 2.5 years!!
Paul Sorvino Eats at GOBO, NYC?!
I was out to dinner last night at GOBO, an AMAZING vegetarian restaurant located in the West Village. Then out of nowhere walks in Paul Sorvino (Big Pauly from Goodfellas) and sits down a few tables from us.
Didn’t think Big Pauly was into vegetarian food?! He looks more like a meatball and pasta kind of guy.
:)
I also had the pleasure of catching up with Klaus Heesch - the owner of that sexy design studio in Florida appropriately named Juicy Temples.
I talked my brother Neal out of eating a bacon cheesburger this morning! He LOVES my parents two pugs and I told him it would be just like eating one of them.
He decided to go with french toast instead! :)
Video Above: 2008 NYC Big Apple Grapple Promotion (live on CW11)
I was just invited to the Channel 11 show with Larry Hoff and the NYAWA Group to promote the 2009 Big Apple Grapple. Seems like ripping decks of cards/ telephone books and bending frying pans gets the main spotlight.
It would be great to talk about PETA sponsoring me…
Pull-ups
I highly recommend the Total Upper Body Workout Bar by Iron Gym. It’s inexpensive, durable and has a few different pull-up options. I usually use custom thicker grips because the bars are too skinny to get a good hand and forearm workout.
To mix it up I also do pull-ups and chin-ups off my door jams - the building is from the 1930’s so it has a thicker frame.
I am proud and excited to announce that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) will OFFICIALLY be sponsoring me at the 2009 Big Apple Grapple. The tournament is being held during the New York City Auto Show at the Javits Center.
Thank you PETA!
P.S. I was also told today that vegetarians save approximately 93 animals every year!

I was 290 lbs (def NOT a vegetarian) at the last armwrestling tournament I competed in over two years ago. I took 1st in the super-heavies left-handed and 2nd place right-handed. I only lost to the MONSTER Canadian Rob Graham in a LONG hook war.
I’ll try to get the video up…
Blossom, NYC - Best Vegan Food Ever!
My girlfriend and I have been dying to eat at Blossom (Gourmet Organic Vegan Cuisine) in New York City for months now. I tried to make a reservation for this past Valentines day but they were solid booked. We have dinned at tons of vegetarian/ vegan resturants in the city over the past two years but Blossom is by far THE BEST vegan food we have ever had!! I don’t think any other place even compares - thats a pretty bold statement.
The quality of the food is AMAZING, my mouth is actually watering just thinking about it BUT the quantity is not so impressive. I can’t wait to go back and order another two bottles of wine and some Baby Spinach Risotto!
Pictured Above: Celery, spinach and carrot juice
When I lived at home my dad (we all call him Blue) would grind carrots, celery and spinach for me at least three days a week with a Samson Juicer. It was always a win-win situation for the both of us because he LOVES grinding things (maybe its theraputical?) and I love drinking grinded vegetable juice. I get this instant sensation of energy throughout by entire body and It feel so healthy.
The only time get that now is when I take a trip home about once a month. :(
